Explore one of Sweden’s most scenic open-pit mines and descend into the historic Spökgruvan on this full-day guided adventure. Includes all gear, lunch, dinner, and safety instruction.
This guided mine adventure begins with a scenic 40-minute drive to one of Sweden’s most beautiful open-pit mines. A 200-meter-long tunnel leads you 25 meters down into a unique landscape with moss-covered rock walls and mature trees. There is time to explore the surroundings before gathering at the top for a shared lunch.
The second part of the day takes you to the hidden and almost forgotten Spökgruvan – a ghostly old iron mine dating back to the 1700s. After a safety briefing and practice session, you'll rappel down into the mine. The first descent is 15 meters, followed by a 35-meter drop into a chamber deep within the rock.
From there, you’ll light torches and continue your journey through a 250-meter-long, partially water-filled tunnel. Walking through the underground in flickering torchlight is a surreal experience. The day ends with a warm, simple dinner outdoors.
This is a physical and adventurous activity that combines nature, history, and technical climbing in a truly unusual setting.
